Custom VR Headset for Interacting with Music with your Hands
SoundLab is a virtual reality installation for gallery exhibition that enables users to hold and manipulate sounds with their hands. Suspended from the ceiling, the installation is designed to be exhibited without the need for a host to oversee operations.
The headset includes an infrared camera to track the users hands, and speakers to experience the music they are creating. The rig also includes a projector and speakers for other gallery visitors to see and hear what the person inside the headset is doing.
The software steps the user through a sequence of four environments, each treating audio differently to demonstrate different paradigms for musical creativity.
